Counselling and Coaching for Adults and Young People (16 plus)
If you're struggling with your mental health or life issues, then counselling will give you the opportunity to explore issues such as emotional pain, anger, guilt, anxiety or depression with one of our team of trained counsellors.
If you are stuck with a matter which is affecting your thinking, feelings or behaviour, then coaching will help you put together a plan of action.
When you're experiencing a mental health problem, supportive and reliable information will help.
What is
Counselling?
There are many types of counselling but all aim to:
-
Give you a safe time and place to talk to someone who won't judge you.
-
Help you make sense of things and understand yourself better.
-
Help you resolve complicated feelings, or find ways to live with them.
-
Maintain your confidentiality (unless you disclose you are being abused). All sessions are one to one.
-
Help you recognise unhelpful patterns in the way you think or act and find ways to change them (if you want to).
Counsellors will not
-
Refer you to other services without your consent.
-
Give you advice or tell you what to do.
-
They will keep professional boundaries and won't meet with you socially.
-
support more than 5 people in one day!
At Burton and District Mind, all of our counsellors practice Intergrative Counselling, which means they will bring a range of psychological practices into your counselling sessions.
All of our counsellors are fully qualified and experienced with ongoing professional development and receive clinical supervision. Most of our counsellors are registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and those that aren't are registered by other professional bodies. You can request details upon allocation.

Burton and District Mind provide counselling as part of the Staffordshire NHS Talking Therapies service
Typically counselling and coaching is delivered over six weekly sessions between 50 to 60 minutes.
Our counselling and coaching is available face to face, over the phone or virtually over the internet.
Our counselling services are available to people aged 16 or over.
It is available across our service area including East Staffordshire, Lichfield District and Tamworth Borough.
We only accept self referrals. You cannot refer a family member for instance.
For counselling to be beneficial it is important to attend regular weekly appointments. If you are unable to attend an arranged appointment it is essential that you give us as much notice as possible. A message can be left at any time on our voicemail facility. If you fail to cancel in good time you may lose that session and if you miss two appointments without contacting us we will assume that you don’t wish to continue with the sessions.
