Time to Talk Day 2025!

It is now officially #TimetoTalk Day 2025! This year’s focus is all about getting comfortable and talking about our mental health. This is why in many of our promotional images for the day, you’ll see somewhere to sit, with space for more than one person!

So what is Time to Talk Day you ask?

This is the nation's biggest mental health conversation, it’s a day where we hope everyone whether it's friends, family, colleagues or even just members of the same community. It takes place on the 6th of February and is run by Mind, Rethink Mental Illness, in partnership with Co-Op.

Why is it so important?

When it comes to mental health, we as people can often neglect and ignore when are struggling. We put on a brave face and can usually avoid talking to people about what we are going through. In fact, last years’ Time to Talk Day revealed that nearly two-thirds of the UK public did this, and nearly half us are less likely to open up as we don’t want to worry others in already difficult times.

This is something that happens for several reasons, whether that be fear of judgement, the stigmas surrounding mental health, or even just a general feeling of what’s the point/things will get better over time.

However, this is not the case.

Instead, the longer you go without getting that support or even just reaching out to the people around you, you’ll usually find that the things you are experiencing with your mental health will get worse.

This is why talking about mental health is so important, through talking openly and honestly, we can take steps towards better mental health for everyone. The stigmas surrounding it can be reduced, and together we can work towards helping people feel comfortable enough to seek help if they need it.

So, let's get comfortable and talk about mental health.

The aim of #TimetoTalk is to get everyone to talk to the people around them, whether it's at home, or even at the workplace! So to give you a bit of a helping hand here are some easy conversation starts about mental health you can use…

  1. “How are you?”  - It's simple enough, but yet still open-ended so gives people the opportunity to really open up.

  2. “What is something you do to look after your mental health?”

  3. “Are you aware of the local mental health support?”

Of course, these are just a few potential ideas, there are many more out there you could use!!

We also understand that talking about mental health may be a difficult thing to do, as perhaps you are worried about how to approach someone opening up in a respectful way.

Here are some things you can do…

  1. Ask questions and listen

  2. Use positive body language and encourage them

  3. Don’t try to fix it

  4. Dispel any myths and avoid cliches

  5. Be patient

We’ll be posting lots of helpful information all about Time to Talk on our social media so be sure to keep an eye out.
