Time to Talk Day 2026

This Thursday its #TimetoTalkDay, the biggest conversation about an incredibly important topic. Mental health. We at Burton & District Mind are inviting our communities across Burton, Tamworth, Lichfield and surrounding areas to come and join in.

Over the past few years there has been so much significant progress in normalising mental health and even moving past some of the stigmas that once might have discouraged someone from seeking support.

For example, we see it more and more on TV where people are encouraged to speak about the things they are finding difficult and not just bottle it up. Or even people just being more outspoken about the fact that they are going through therapy.

However, that doesn’t mean we just stop there.

Instead let’s keep the conversation going.

This Thursday, it is #TimetoTalk

So, what can you do to get involved?

Every day whether in person or even virtually, we encounter other people. These could be friends, family, colleagues or just even people we may encounter throughout our lives. And this Thursday why not start the conversation around mental health?

It doesn’t need to be an intricate depth conversation about all the details about mental health, but instead it could be…

  • How are you?
  • What do you know of the support available for mental health?
  • How do you look after your mental health?

These are just a few examples, and we’ve tried to keep them as open questions that may encourage people to talk more, instead of just yes or no questions.

Our Focus

Over the past year at Burton & District Mind, we have had a big focus on workplace health and are very proud to offer that to many local businesses across Staffordshire. We have placed a large focus on further supporting the mental health of people in our own team, and how better we can do that.

Here are some statistics from an MHFA England study from 2024 that highlight just how important mental health support in the workplace is…

  • 25% of UK workers report feeling unable to cope with workplace stress, showing the need for support.
  • Nearly 10% of Uk adults that taken time off for mental health reasons over the past year.

However,

  • 52% of employees feel more engaged and productive when their organisation offers mental health resources such as access to counselling.
  • Companies that encourage open communication and mental health awareness see a 20% increase in employee retention rates.

(You can read more about this here: https://mhfaengland.org/mhfa-centre/blog/Key-workplace-mental-health-statistics-for-2024/)

So this year whether you are an employee or employer, why not start the conversation about…

‘Mental health in the workplace’

This could be…

  • What support do we have available?
  • Do you feel comfortable talking to employers about your mental health?
  • Are we offering any support?

Together lets make this a fantastic Time to Talk Day.
