Burton & District Mind is celebrating the success of its LGBTQIA+ Creative Spaces project in Tamworth, which has helped improve confidence, wellbeing and social connections for local LGBTQIA+ people experiencing mental health challenges.

Over eight weeks, nine participants took part in creative wellbeing sessions designed to provide a safe, welcoming space where they could express themselves, build friendships and support one another. The project exceeded most of its targets, with 88% of participants reporting improved wellbeing, 100% reporting improved self-esteem, and 100% continuing to engage in creative or community activities after the programme.

Participants described the sessions as inclusive, supportive and empowering. One participant, Dawn, shared how the project helped them overcome isolation and anxiety while living with ADHD. They said, highlighting the importance of having an environment where both their identity and neurodiversity were understood and respected.

Alongside delivering positive outcomes for participants, the project has strengthened Burton & District Mind’s commitment to LGBTQIA+ inclusion through staff development and more inclusive ways of working.

Burton & District Mind would like to thank everyone who participated, volunteered and supported the project, helping to create a more connected and inclusive community.

There are two other upcoming Creative Space Projects that will be starting soon.
